WOOSTER, Ohio, Feb. 5, 2014 – Due to icing conditions The College of Wooster will be closed until noon today. Core services will be maintained, but classes and events before noon are canceled. Further updates will follow if weather conditions warrant.
The Wooster Jazz Ensemble concert scheduled for tomorrow (Thursday) night has been postponed because the guest soloist can’t get out of Chicago, where the weather’s even worse than here. The concert will be rescheduled at a date to be determined later.
The Fighting Scots men’s and women’s basketball games scheduled for tonight at Hiram College have been postponed until tomorrow due to the weather. The women will tip off at 6 p.m. Thursday, the men at 8 p.m.

Despite the storm, the Lowry Center dining hall is open today with full service during its regular hours of 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.
MacLeod’s Coffee Bar & Convenience Store will be open until 1 p.m., while Mom’s will open at 11 a.m. for lunch and operate at least until early afternoon (later if staff can get in to campus).
Kittredge, the Tartan Room, and Pop’s Sub Stop are all closed today.
The College of Wooster will be closed today, Wednesday, Feb. 2, due to the impact of the ice storm. All classes are cancelled and all college offices will be closed. Only those college personnel necessary for emergency response duty will report to work.
Please remain indoors and off the roads as conditions are expected to be hazardous today.
The National Weather Service has issued a winter storm warning for the Wooster area, which remains in effect through 7 p.m. tomorrow, Wednesday, Feb. 2. A mix of sleet, freezing rain, and snow will develop this evening and continue through the day tomorrow. Accumulations of a half inch or more of ice are expected overnight, and American Electric Power is anticipating power outages throughout northeast Ohio.
The college’s emergency response planning group continues to monitor the situation and plans are in place to deal with the storm’s impact on campus. Updates will be provided as necessary through the college’s emergency notification system of text and voice messages and e-mail, as well as on this blog.
Please use common sense and exercise caution if you are moving around campus during the storm.
Due to a power outage this morning at Cleveland Hopkins Airport many flights have been canceled or delayed. If you are a returning student who has been directly impacted by this situation, please contact Security at 330-263-2513. The College is working to reschedule shuttles to aid with transportation to campus.
